As a new year rolls in, we are triggered to think about making changes in our lives. Most often these are referred to as New Year’s Resolutions. Typically we decide on things in our life we would like to Do differently. We decide we are going to work out more, eat less, and give up something we deem unhealthy. We decide that this is the year to clean out the attic or get the backyard re-landscaped. I am going to suggest that this year we focus less on changes that need to be made in our actions and focus more on our mental outlook. My suggestion is to Think differently.
I’ve talked before about the origin of all our experiences being our thoughts. The thoughts we have about ourselves, another person, a situation, or Life in general is the reason we feel a certain way. This feeling is the basis for why we make our decisions on how to act or what we do. It is then out of our actions that we create our experiences. When we believe in lack or "can’t", being victim to the past, being less than we need to be, guilt, hardship, loss, impossibilities...anything that falls in the FEAR category... our lives reflect those thoughts. What we believe in-we create. What we believe in - we seek to have substantiated (often subconsciously). And what we believe in - we find.
Thus, if we really want to change something in our life we need to change our thought about it. When I speak of changing something, please remember we have no power to change the past. That is something we cannot change. However, we have all the power in the world to change how we experience and think about our present. How we experience our present, the thoughts we choose to hold about ourselves and about Life, shapes all future outcomes and our experience of living. To live successfully we must forgive the past as it is Truthfully the only reasonable and sane thing to do. Forgiving does not mean that we call bad behavior good or that we allow someone who has mistreated us to do so again. Forgiveness does mean we let go of the belief that it has power over us. I recently heard forgiving described as "our letting go of the idea that the past could have been any different".
The past is over. 2011 is over. And all the years prior to 2011 and everything they contained are over. We have moved into a new calendar year. At this very moment, as you read this article, you have all the power necessary to experience this moment and all moments that follow in a new way. Although we may think what we seek to change is some outer experience - our home, our job, our bodies - what we Truly seek is to be content and at peace inside. We seek to know we are worthwhile. We seek to know that we and our Lives are good, just as it is. We grasp at outer changes with the conscious or subconscious hope that it will bring us the inner peace we desire. It may seem at times that the outer change does bring us this inner desire. But anything on the outside is only temporary. It does not last forever. If our faith is placed on this "thing" or "circumstance", we will eventually find it unsatisfying.
Thinking anew takes practice, determination, dedication, and awareness; just like working out, dieting, changing jobs, cleaning out the attic requires. However, the reward of choosing a new thought is more real and effective. And it helps you achieve you what you are Truly desire.
Most of us have been thinking things about ourselves and Life that we are completely unaware of thinking. So the first step is to become aware. The first thought to plant in your head is that you are now aware of those random and chronic thoughts you hold. The thoughts you want to change are any that root themselves in the ideas of LACK, LIMITATION, IMPOSSIBILITY, SELF-DEGRADATION/CRITICISM, and BLAME. These thoughts can be glaringly noticeable or they can be insidious (i.e. "I have never been good at will power" or "Money never comes easy for me" or "I’ve never been a lucky person"). Watch for these thoughts and decide to realize that they can never serve your best interests. More importantly... they are not true.
You are the creation of the same Creator who made all there is in this Universe. The Creator sustains all Life, keeps the planets in perfect rotation, enables the seasons to change, allows a forest to regrow itself after a fire, and a cut on your hand to heal - ALL without you having to do anything. If you ever doubt that there is a power of Life acting on your behalf and seeking to bring you all you need, just watch a cut or scratch on your body heal over time. Even before your eyes can see it, you just know that it will heal. You have confidence in that process. It is not to be taken for granted because it is proof of the flow of Life at work in you. This Creator (which I call God) did not make you imperfect or leave you without everything you need to live fully and happily. It matters not what has happened to you in the past or what you may have done in the past. The Power of Life is always renewing you and giving you exactly what you need to move onward and upward.
This new year - 2012 - make your resolution to think in cooperation with the Truth. Decide to think with the mind of the Creator God. To do so means to think:
1. "I am capable of all things I desire."
2. "Everything I truly need is always being provided to me." (Even when the eyes cannot yet see it, like a cut or scratch is healing.)
3. "There is nothing Truly lacking in Me or in the world around me."
4 "All things are possible through the Source of Life (God) who created me."
5. "I CAN!"
6. "The past has no power over me now. I forgive everyone and everything and let it go."
These are just a few examples of thinking Truthfully and Powerfully. If you would like to study and have support in changing your life experience and understand the power you have to do so, I suggest you pick up a copy of the book "You Can Heal Your Life" by Louise L. Hay. It is a great starting place to living the Life you are designed to live.
To begin today, sit down for a moment and become aware of at least one thought you hold chronically which tells you that you are less than perfect. Pick one thought that tells you that you "can’t" do or be something. And then take a moment every day to remind yourself that on this day you will notice every time that thought comes into your consciousness. And when it does you will say to it..."No. No more. I now choose to believe the opposite." Then create your opposing statement of belief. Write it down. And practice it every day, over and over. For 2012 plant seeds of new thoughts that nourish, support, and uplift you. It will take practice. It will be worth it.
Happy New Year to all.
